I'm going to purchase a Kubota L31010 and would like some advise on transmissions. I'm mowing about 10 acres in a 45 acres plot of land used for deer hunting. The dealer has both the GST and the standard shift with shuttle. I'm concerned about reliability of the GST tranny. The land is about 50 miles from the dealer and I don't want to have to transport it back and forth. I'm putting a front end loader on, but don't expect to do much work (keep potholes filled, tear out bushes ect.) From a reliabilty standpoint would I be better off with the standard tranny? Does the GST have much trouble. I appreciate your help.

I have been working with kubotas for quite some time and I have also been to several schools offered by the company for service thch.s. In the last school I attended we went over the new 3010 and all the changes from the previous tractor. mainly we focused on the new hydrostatics. Basically the other trans.'s design are unchanged from the previous tractors. With the old tractors I have never had a problem or run across a problem with a GST that wasn't easily solver by a simple filter change on someone putting the wrong oil in the trans.(trans oil is also the hydro oil in this tractor). the only thing I could recommend to you about this tractor is to keep it serviced and the loader greased and you will the tractor will outlive you or I. they really are well built machines. Everyone that has the previous design tractor that I talk to loves it and is very happy with it. it just isn't any comparison to that green thing. Nothing kills a Deere like a kubota :) write me if you have any more questions.Ji ....

Robert-I recently purchased a L3600 DT with LA680 loader to be used mostly for pasture mowing and bush hogging. I selected the DT for several reasons: 1. $1000 cheaper2. Minimal power loss due to transmission. The GST will reduce available power. Dealers I talked to and documents read said %10 to %20.3. Much cheaper to service. Kubota oil for DT transmission costs half of the required Super UDT fluid necessary for the GST transmission. For low hour annual use in my case, the cost of changing the Super UDT fluid costs more than annual fuel costs.Overall, for my expected use, the DT was the better option. Some people love the GST and I understand it is a dependable transmission. The trade-offs were just too steep for my purchase. Good Luck ....

For what its worth. Kubota dealer in Hickory MD. stated that they have hadproblems in the past with the GST trans. He highly recommended the hydrostatic.I know the hydro cost more (I have a hydro) but from my experience I'd nevergo back to a gear tractor. (I had one originally). I realize you loose a littlehorsepower, but the convenience of the hydro is worth it to me. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck. ....

reading some of the reponse's to your iquire is quite interesting . the kubota glideshift was first indroduced in the 80's . threre was some problems with them but it was minor. compared to other transmissions it was and still is one of the best in the industry for anyone to opereate. the price option was and still is today only 400.00. The glideshift transmission has only a2% loss as it is a hydralicly shifted gear transmission not a hydro which typecally has a 10% loss of power. the potential of having more than one operater makes the glideshift trans one of the best as there os never a chance of a missed shift or grating gears. any one in a short time can feel very comfortable operating on of these. I would have to say the cost of oil is nomanal compared to a clutch job or to do transmission work. ....
